David Chen was born and brought up in mainland China where he studied Marine Biology at the Xiamen University. He moved to New Zealand in 1999 and worked as a real estate agent after his MBA studies, successfully running three real estate offices.

After completing his law degree and being admitted to the bar in 2015, he proceeded to practice as a property and family law lawyer, building a very good reputation with the Chinese and local community.

David specialises in conveyancing, property law, trusts, asset planning, family law, and commercial transactions.

Hans Yan is from Beijing, China. He immigrated to New Zealand in 2002. He studied in Massey University from where he obtained Bachelor of Business with double major of E-Business and Economics in 2007 and Master of Management in 2010.

After the academic achievement from Massey University, Hans obtained LLB (Hons) from Waikato University and LLM (Hons) from University of Auckland. Then, he was admitted to the High Court in 2015.

Hans has experience in conveyancing, family law, commercial lease, immigration law and civil litigations.

Hans always focuses on his clients' best interest by providing practical solutions to their issues.

Grace Peng was brought up in China. She obtained her Bachelor of Law and Master in Copyright Law, and later she practised family law for five years in the Women's Federation of China.

Grace completed her New Zealand law degree (LLB) at Auckland University of Technology, and she was admitted to the bar in 2021.

Grace assists David in a wide variety of legal matters, focusing on property law, land law and family law.

Collaborating closely with Principal David Chen, Sandy contributes her expertise to a broad range of residential, commercial, and general practice matters.

Raymond was born and brought up in Christchurch, New Zealand. Raymond graduated with a BA in English and Media Studies in 2008 and BA Honours in Media Studies in 2010 from Massey University.

Raymond did not grow up with the ambition to be a lawyer, but he had always wanted to be in a position where he could help other people and provide solutions to their problems. In 2017, Raymond turned his hand and mind to legal studies at the University of Canterbury and graduated with an LLB degree in 2020. He was admitted to the legal profession on 17 September 2021 at the Christchurch High Court and has practised the law since 12 November 2021. This new career path provided the opportunity to help those who need a hand in society.

At Chen Legal, Raymond practises in areas of litigation including immigration appeals, company law, employment law, family law, wills, trusts and estates.

Harvey was raised in the City of Sails, Auckland, where he pursued his tertiary education in Commercial Law at the University of Auckland. With a desire to broaden his horizons and strengthen the connection between New Zealand and China, he then moved to Beijing, where he completed both his master's and doctoral degrees. Upon returning to Auckland, Harvey dedicated himself to serving the community, applying his expertise and international perspective to advocate for and implement initiatives that assist individuals, families, and businesses. Harvey's time in the New Zealand Royal Army was transformative, instilling in him the values of discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment. These experiences have profoundly shaped his approach to professional work.

Chen Legal was set up in 2019 by David Chen, a local to the Takapuna area. Right from the beginning, our law firm has established a strong connection with the North Shore and the migrant community, and we regard this strong communal feeling to be one of our founding principles.
