David Chen was born and brought up in mainland China where he studied Marine Biology at the Xiamen University. He moved to New Zealand in 1999 and worked as a real estate agent after his MBA studies, successfully running three real estate offices.

After completing his law degree and being admitted to the bar in 2015, he proceeded to practice as a property and family law lawyer, building a very good reputation with the Chinese and local community.

David specialises in conveyancing, property law, trusts, asset planning, family law, and commercial transactions.

Grace Peng was brought up in China. She obtained her Bachelor of Law and Master in Copyright Law, and later she practised family law for five years in the Women's Federation of China.

Grace completed her New Zealand law degree (LLB) at Auckland University of Technology, and she was admitted to the bar in 2021.

Grace assists David in a wide variety of legal matters, focusing on property law, land law and family law.

Polo studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2016 to 2019 for Juris Doctor and PCLL. After 2 years of training in a Hong Kong law firm, she was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in February 2022. In July 2024, Polo came to New Zealand and was admitted to the New Zealand High Court in 2025.

After joining Chen Legal, she worked as a personal assistant to David CHEN and enjoys applying her legal expertise to the friendly team and serving New Zealand communities. Polo is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, English, and Russian.

Dr Rekha is a highly experienced, over 30 years of professional experience in law, including teaching and research, across New Zealand, Africa, and Asia. She holds a Doctorate in Law, and Rekha is a member of the New Zealand Law Society.

Rekha brings broad knowledge in tribunal advocacy, family law proceedings, and human rights–based matters, with a strong focus on practical, client-centred outcomes. Her work is informed by professional experience across three continents, enabling her to engage effectively with clients from diverse cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds. Jordan is a Business Manager with an extensive background in business development, professional relationship management, and immigration services. With more than 18 years of practising experience in New Zealand, he has developed strong expertise in client communication, commercial coordination, and building long-term professional partnerships.

Jordan holds a Master of Management from Massey University. As part of the legal team, he is primarily responsible for the firm's contact for clients with a broad range of business needs, helping them identify relevant legal services and connect with the appropriate lawyers within the firm. Andrew Young is a criminal barrister with over 10 years’ experience practising across the District Court, High Court, and the Court of Appeal of New Zealand. He specialises in serious criminal litigation, including jury trials, defended hearings, sentencing, and appellate work.

Andrew has worked under and alongside a number of senior practitioners and King’s Counsel, developing extensive experience in complex evidential issues, trial advocacy, and appellate strategy. His practice is marked by careful analysis, thorough preparation, and measured advocacy.

He has professional experience practising in both New Zealand and Hong Kong. His notable cases include R v Ross & Ors, R v Huang, and R v Tane.

Michael YANG

Michael Yang has extensive practical experience navigating the end-to-end property development process, with particular strengths in strategic proposition, development due diligence, project finance, and onsite contractor management. His experience allows him to provide commercially grounded advice on development strategy, project feasibility, and project commercialisation.

Prior to entering the property development industry, Michael held several senior managerial roles in the banking sector both overseas and in New Zealand. Alongside his professional practice, Michael lectures at a university level on property development while undertaking doctoral research examining the implications of medium-density residential developments in New Zealand.

 Michael’s combined experience across development practice, finance, and academic research enables him to provide clear and practical advice on complex residential development matters.
